PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — It was a rare sight in Philadelphia as Lincoln Drive closed to vehicles and opened to volunteers for an hours-long clean-up campaign.
The spring cleaning event was just one of many held by Friends of the Wissahickon, an organization that has cared for Wissahickon Valley Park for over 100 years.
Participants pulled car bumpers, tire rims, soda cans, and even electronics out of the streets and vegetation.
Litter that collects on this winding road can end up in an important source of drinking water in Philadelphia: the Wissahickon Watershed.
Organizers hope that drivers take notice of their hard work and think twice about littering.
Another clean-up event will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Bells Mill Road.
Anyone interested in getting involved with the Friends of the Wissahickon can visit their website.
