PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A 13-year-old boy was killed and another teen was injured Tuesday night after an altercation led to a shooting in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, police said.

The gunfire erupted around 8:45 p.m. in the 7100 block of North 19th Street.

Investigators say the teens were playing basketball on a makeshift court behind several homes when an altercation involving multiple people broke out, leading to gunfire.

Police said the 13-year-old was shot multiple times and later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

A second victim, a 14-year-old boy, was shot in the lower extremities and taken to the hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

According to Philadelphia Police Inspector D F Pace, officers recovered between 15 and 20 spent shell casings at the scene.

Authorities have not released a motive, and it was not immediately clear who opened fire.

No arrests have been announced.
