2 killed after being struck by Conrail freight train in Kensington section of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Two people were struck and killed by a freight train Tuesday evening in the Kensington section of Philadelphia in what authorities described as a tragic accident.

The victims were hit by a Conrail freight train around 7:30 p.m. while sitting on the tracks on a bridge overpass above Kensington Avenue, officials said.

The train was traveling approximately 50 mph at the time of the collision.

It was not immediately known why the two people were on the tracks. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
