PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Several firefighters were hurt while battling a 2-alarm blaze in Philadelphia’s Wynnefield neighborhood on Monday night.
It happened just after 10 p.m. on the 5300 block of Hazelhurst Street.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames shooting from the roof of a house.
Officials say nine firefighters were injured when the second floor of the home collapsed, pinning several of them under heavy debris.
One of the injured firefighters could be seen being carried from the home, while another was helped down the front steps.
Six firefighters were treated and released from the hospital, but three remain hospitalized in stable condition.
At least three homes were damaged and the Red Cross is providing emergency support to two families.
The fire was placed under control about an hour later.
There’s no word of any injuries to residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
