PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — This week on FYI Philly, we visit the Snack Shack, the Secondhand Ranch, and a Bobby Flay favorite comes to Philly.

We also meet a trailblazer in women’s fitness apparel, find out how to dance your way into shape this spring, and learn how your home recipes could go down in history.

Second Hand Ranch lets you sip, snack, sway, and shop with a cowboy vibe to boot

What happens when a Western bar adds a vintage shop, and the country combo moves in to a former bank in Fishtown?

You get Second Hand Ranch — a unique new spot that just galloped into town with plenty of options for a gitty-up good time.

The decor is cowboy rustic, and the bar has all the standards — including Lone Star Beer. There’s good eatin’ with nachos, chili, and 100% Wagyu hot dogs.

Curated vendors have their Western wares for sale in the vintage shop, which also has its own bar.

Add pinball and pool, plus live country music, it’s a legit hipster hang at an authentic city saloon.

Snack Shack at Forest and Main a collaboration between two local favorites

Forest & Main has been an award-winning craft brewer based in Ambler since 2012. Dane DeMarco has been nominated for a James Beard Award for the food created over a career in many different kitchens. Together, they are bringing their brands to the Snack Shack at Forest & Main in Fishtown.

DeMarco handles the kitchen with approachable unique dishes throughout the menu like a pork roll cheesesteak, a giant pretzel with a house topping and a fry flight to match the beer atmosphere.

Forest & main provides the drinks with a range of craft beers and different style taps to deliver their goods. There are cocktails and ciders from local makers and a takeout refrigerator if you want to bring anything home that you like.

This is the first venture for both in the Fishtown neighborhood.

Alchemize Fightwear for Female Bodies

Alchemize Fightwear is a business born of deep personal need.

Founder & CEO, Maya Nazareth, had taken up Brazilian jiu-jitsu class when she was 16 years old. A victim of bullying and sexual assault, she says Jiu-Jitsu made her feel empowered and helped her heal.

However, the clothing-designed for male bodies-didn’t fit properly, and she often found herself exposed on the mat.

And so she started interviewing other female fighters and launched Alchemize Fightwear at the age of 20.

She spent her life savings of $2000 on a rash guard and, as sales grew, she expanded her product line-adding gis, singlets, hoodies, spats and shirts with a focus on durable fabrics and double linings in high stress areas.

She also started offering free self-defense classes, open mats and seminars

She’s now planning the East Coast Women’s Grappling Retreat, the largest all-women’s grappling retreat in the world.

In 2024, Maya made Forbes Magazine’s 30 under 30 list.

Then last fall, she entered the Shark Tank and won a deal with 3 sharks for $100,000 for 15% of the company.

After the episode aired, she says, she had Olympic-level athletes, UFC athletes and some of the biggest names in the sport reaching out to work with Alchemize Fightwear.

Her goal, she says, is to build a movement where every single woman feels like they can transform into a stronger, more powerful version of themselves.

Main Line Health recipes do double duty to help people on the go eat healthy

Adults of the age where they are raising children, as well as taking care of aging parents, are the so-called ‘sandwich generation’. They also tend to be at a busy point in their own careers, so life can be so non-stop that there’s not time to make healthy meals.

If they get a serious diagnosis on top of all that, challenges can seem insurmountable.

Main Line Health shares two recipes that can save time in the kitchen – a valuable need for any parent in that age group, or anyone on the go. See how the recipes come together to make one healthy meal into two. The Teaching Kitchen at Main Line Health in King of Prussia offers a variety of virtual and in-person nutrition programs, with in-person events that include food demonstrations.
