PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — 6abc is following the road to the Oscars.
While Hollywood may have the biggest night, Philadelphia also has a ceremony honoring the year’s best films.
The Philadelphia Film Critics Circle crowns its own winners. Rich Heimlich and Stephen Silver co-founded the organization in 2017.
Every year, they hand out their awards before any of the big ceremonies.
Heimlich told Action News, “This is probably the best boxing card since Ali/Frazier. And I mean that in every sense, it’s basically a head-to-head with two, you know, two boxers, two opponents. “
Those two films are “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners.”
The Philadelphia Film Critics Circle chose “One Battle After Another” as their Best Picture, and the film’s director, Paul Thomas Anderson, also won.
Their Best Actor Award went to Michael B. Jordan in “Sinners.”
“Hamnet”‘s Jessie Buckley won their award for Best Actress.
Their other two acting awards went to stars from “One Battle After Another.”
Teyana Taylor won Best Supporting Actress and Benicio Del Toro for Best Supporting Actor.
The Philadelphia Film Critics Circle also hands out an award in a category all our own, the Phillips Steaks Cheesesteak Award. The winner this year was Superman, which starred Philadelphia native David Corenswet.
