PHILADELPHIA — A crash involving an ambulance in Philadelphia’s Frankford section has left a 2-month-old baby dead, police confirmed.
According to authorities, the baby was inside an ambulance when it collided with a car and overturned around 5:15 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Harbison Avenue and Torresdale Avenue.
Police say the driver of the ambulance was taken into custody.
The infant was pronounced dead following the crash.
The child’s mother, who was also riding in the ambulance, was transported to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.
Police say the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash avoided serious injury.
A representative of Medstar EMS confirmed that the crash did unfortunately involve one of their employees and one of their vehicles. They are still investigating exactly what happened.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision.
