ELKINS PARK, Pa. (WPVI) — A shooting near a basketball court in Elkins Park, Montgomery County, is under investigation after a stray bullet struck a nearby home Sunday night.
Police say no one was injured, but they are continuing to search for those responsible.
The shooting happened around 8:15 p.m. near the basketball courts on Cadwalader Street.
Police said multiple callers reported hearing gunfire and seeing a large group run from the area behind the McKinley Fire Company.
One of the bullets hit the front door of a home belonging to Robert Finks Sr., who plans to replace it soon.
“It’s not that much damage, but I don’t want no memory of a bullet hitting my door,” Finks said.
Finks described the area as typically quiet, saying, “It’s a peaceful neighborhood. We really never had incidents like this happen.”
Investigators say two men retrieved guns from the firehouse parking lot and fired multiple rounds at a passing car. Finks said his son had been sitting on the front steps of their home shortly before the bullet struck.
“He described, I just went in the house, closed the door, bam, the bullet hit,” Finks said.
Police said no innocent bystanders or those involved in the shooting were injured. They are asking residents in the area to review any surveillance or doorbell camera footage that could help identify who was involved and provide more information about what happened.
One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said about 10 to 15 people had been at the basketball courts before the shooting.
“If you got a problem, talk it out. If you can’t talk it out, maybe use your fists like the old days. gGuns aren’t the way,” the neighbor said.
Police said the motive for the shooting remains unknown. They are looking for an unknown-colored Audi sedan and a gray Infiniti sedan in connection with the case.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Abington Township police.
