LOS ANGELES — The Walt Disney Company is among the big winners at this year’s Gracie Awards, honoring women in media. The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation (AWMF) announced the winners, celebrating the women who are “telling the truth and making it impossible to look away.”
“Women’s stories don’t just reflect the world, they shape it, shift it and refuse to let it stay the same,” said Becky Brooks, president of AWMF. “This year’s honorees are doing exactly that across every platform, every format and every audience. We are proud, we are moved and we are honored to say their names out loud.”
Disney’s long list of wins spans its entire portfolio, including ABC News, Hulu, ESPN, National Geographic and Disney Branded Television. Among the top honors, ABC News Studios and Hulu received a Grand Award for the documentary “Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything.”
In the scripted and competition categories, Hulu’s “Paradise” was named top drama, while “Dancing with the Stars” won the award for competition series. Disney Branded Television also saw success with a family series win for “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” a sports documentary series honor for “Harlem Ice,” and an award for “The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl.” “The Simpsons” was also recognized, winning for the animated comedy episode “Aunt Misbehavin’.”
ABC News’s “Nightline” was named best news program and “20/20” is the winner for news magazine, with Deborah Roberts earning a win for audio podcast host for “20/20: After Show.” In sports, ESPN’s Jenn Hildreth was honored for on-air talent and Kristen Lappas won best director for the series “The Kingdom.”
The company’s documentary and scripted content also performed well, with National Geographic’s “Sally” winning for documentary and “Cleopatra’s Final Secret” recognized for historical documentary. Within the streaming ranks, Hulu’s Sharon Horgan won best supporting actress for “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox” and Quiana Burns was named top non-fiction showrunner for “The Tamron Hall Show.”
Local and student winners, including WABC’s Sam Ryan and the team behind ABC7 KGO-TV’s “A Mother’s Hope,” will be recognized later this summer at the Gracie Awards Luncheon.
The celebration will continue at the Gracie Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 19, at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills. National winners will be honored at the Gala alongside fellow 2026 recipients including Oprah Winfrey, Abby Phillip and Sarah Snook.
