Northeast Philadelphia elementary school hosts fire safety ceremony to honor fallen student

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — An emotional ceremony in Northeast Philadelphia capped a day of important lessons for students at Thomas Holme Elementary School.

Friday morning, the kids took part in a fire safety day, run by the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Students in all grades learned critical prevention and safety tips.

They could also sign up to have free smoke detectors installed in their homes.

This was organized in honor of their classmate, Samuel, who lost his life in a fire over the summer.

Samuel’s family was invited to take part, as a donation was made to the Philadelphia Fire Foundation in his honor.
