LINWOOD, N.J. (WPVI) — Two baseball coaches at Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, New Jersey, are no longer with the program.
Head coach Joe Smith resigned from his position on Saturday. A volunteer coach was also removed from the staff on Friday.
The changes come amid an investigation prompted by concerns related to a recent team trip.
Athletic Director Billy Kern will serve as head coach until an interim coach is named.
“When concerns are brought to our attention, we take them seriously and respond with the thoroughness they require. AD Kern’s immediate availability to stabilize the program ensures continuity and stability for our players, and I am confident in his leadership and commitment to our athletes,” Superintendent Mark Marrone said in a statement.
Marrone said no students are the subject of the investigation and no students are alleged to have engaged in any wrongdoing.
Further details on the investigation have not been released.
