LOS ANGELES — What happens when three friends pluck a mysterious mint off their bedroom ceiling and spiral into a psychedelic quest for pizza? In “Pizza Movie,” it somehow becomes a life-or-death mission.
The new Hulu original stars Gaten Matarazzo, Sean Giambrone, and Lulu Wilson as college students riding wave after wave of being very, very high-each phase weirder than the last.
“The real inspiration was just how ridiculously hard it is to order food when you’re high,” Wilson told On The Red Carpet.
When their pizza finally arrives downstairs in the dorm lobby, a simple pickup turns into an epic journey, one that requires dodging RAs like they’re enemy soldiers during a war.
“When you’re this age, and in college, things that aren’t high stakes are super high stakes, like being an alpha or getting your friends on a party bus,” she added. “That’s the highest of high stakes, but then you add this crazy experimental drug, and then the RA killing you isn’t that far off from the crazy reality of what’s happening.”
“I love that it was a comedy of friends and that it was like a stoner movie, kind of like some of my favorites that I like to watch,” Giambrone said.
“Pizza Movie” is streaming now on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu, Disney+ and this ABC station.
