Philadelphia police warning residents to stay off city’s icy rivers

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are urging residents to stay off the city’s frozen rivers.

Authorities say they have seen people walking and skating on the ice, which is illegal and extremely dangerous.

River ice is often thinner than it appears because moving water weakens it and conditions can change quickly.

Falling through the ice can be fatal, with hypothermia setting in within minutes.
