Health department issues warning after Grays Ferry fire

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Philadelphia Health Department is warning residents to take precautions following a fire in the city’s Grays Ferry neighborhood.

The blaze broke out Thursday night at a recycling plant facility at South 34th Street and Grays Ferry Avenue.

Residents are being asked to avoid the area or stay inside if possible due to smoke from the fire.

The health department has dispatched inspectors to the area to collect air samples to assess air quality and any potential threat. At this time, no specific hazardous substances have been identified.

The air may be potentially hazardous for sensitive groups, including children, older adults, people who are pregnant, and those with respiratory diseases or heart conditions.
