Falls Bridge, Kelly Drive, Ridge Avenue closed in Philadelphia’s East Falls section as crews respond to train fire

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Falls Bridge and a portion of Kelly Drive and Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia’s East Falls neighborhood are closed Friday morning as crews work to extinguish a train fire nearby.

Officials say the fire actually began on Thursday afternoon on a railcar across the Schuylkill River in Wynnefield.

Firefighters worked to extinguish hot spots on the train on Friday morning, using water from hydrants in East Falls and taking hoses across the East Falls Bridge.

Chopper 6 was overhead as crews hosed down the smoking railcar.

Kelly Drive and Ridge Avenue are closed between Route 1/City Avenue and Midvale Avenue while crews continue their work.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
