PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — People in Philadelphia are feeling the love this Valentine’s Day.
The Iconic LOVE Sculpture, once again, is serving as the perfect backdrop for a photo op, and in 10 couples’ cases, a special V-Day wedding.
“It’s something that we’ve been wanting to do. Spontaneous. We’re from around this area. So why not here?” said Marc Bondad of Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
For the Bondad Couple, it’s a love story, 13 years in the making. Surrounded by family and friends, the Bondad couple was one of the first to tie the knot, kicking off the annual Philadelphia tradition.
In between the weddings and pictures, Action News was there for a surprise proposal.
“I’m feeling very emotional, very happy. I’m absolutely happy,” said Shramelle Dellesandro, Washington, D.C.
“I was trying to avoid Valentine’s Day. I wanted to actually do it yesterday, but with everything, it fell on Valentine’s Day. So, I’m happy, regardless, he said yes, so I’m thankful,” said Augustine Joseph, Washington, D.C.
It wasn’t just about the weddings and photo ops; the Welcome Center transformed into the Make Love Market with Now + Then Marketplace.
The 20 local vendors included caricature artists, florists, and more to help with last-minute gift ideas.
“So special Valentine’s Day edition, selling everything with lovers in mind, self-love, self-care,” said Operator of Then + Now Marketplace, Steph Irwin.
It’s all in the name of love.
“This is our fifth Valentine’s Day. We are celebrating two years of marriage. We have a 9-month-old. We are just so grateful,” said Tina McIntosh, of Burlington County, New Jersey.
“To be here in the sun, and the wedding, just kind of bought Valentine’s Day back, very fun to celebrate it here,” said Margie Omero, of Maryland.
Ten couples married or renewed their vows in front of the LOVE sculpture.
They were allotted 30 minutes, and Parks & Rec provided an officiant from Journeys of the Heart.
