STAFFORD TWP., N.J. (WPVI) — Newly released body cam video captured the intense moment police officers rescued a man from a burning home in Ocean County, New Jersey.
The man jumped from a second-story balcony to escape the flames.
The fire happened Feb. 13, on Yoeman Road in Stafford Township.
Four officers, Sgt. Robert Woodring, Senior Master Patrol Officer Bryan Brown, Patrolman Zachary Otte, and Patrolman Sean O’Rouke are credited with rescue.
“This incident is a powerful example of the dedication and courage of our officers,” said Police Chief James Haldenwang.
“What these officers did was truly amazing. Their quick, selfless actions undoubtedly saved this man’s life, and I am awestruck by the heroics displayed.”
While two people were able to make it out and transported to Philadelphia for treatment, the fire tragically resulted in the death of a 92 year-old woman, Betty Matero.
Officials say the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental, likely resulting from a failure of lithium-ion batteries.
