SALEM, N.J. (WPVI) — Sean Higgins, the driver charged with killing NHL hockey players Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau in South Jersey is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a discretionary conference.
Higgins is accused of being intoxicated when he hit the brothers as they were riding bikes on a rural road in Salem County in August of 2024.
In January 2026, a judge rejected the defense’s motion to suppress statements made by Higgins. That decision was also upheld by a state appellate court.
If convicted on all charges, Higgins faces up to 70 years in prison.
His attorneys turned down a more lenient plea deal of 35 years.
