‘Modern’ American Girl doll collection released by Mattel to celebrate 40th anniversary

American Girl is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Mattel’s popular doll line is marking four decades of storytelling, community, and empowerment with its American Girl “Modern Era Collection.”

Each of the original six American Girl dolls represents a period in United States history, with the modern versions coming back in contemporary clothes.

American Girl dates back to 1986, when a teacher who loved history created the first product line.

The “Modern Era” dolls are available for pre-sale now and will begin shipping May 1.
