WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) — A man was fatally shot by police in New Castle County, Delaware, on Tuesday after officers responded to a shots-fired call.

The incident began around 3:50 p.m. along the unit block of Ramsey Road in Wilmington. Police say officers heard gunshots coming from a home when they arrived at the scene.

After a standoff for several hours, investigators said the man exited the residence and was fatally shot by police.

“After several hours, the male subject later exited the residence and encountered officers who discharged their firearms, striking the male. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene,” New Castle County police said in a statement early Wednesday morning.

The man’s name has not been released pending family notification.

No further details were immediately available.
