CHESTER HEIGHTS, Pa. – The family of 57yearold Steven Hulsey of Upper Darby is pleading for answers after he was struck and killed by a hitandrun driver late Friday night.
“Nobody deserves to go out the way he did, especially under them circumstances,” his soninlaw, Joshua Lafferty, said.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, Hulsey was walking near Red Roof Drive and Baltimore Pike around 11:45 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle. First responders found him unconscious in the northbound lanes. Rocky Run EMS workers attempted lifesaving measures before he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lafferty said the family does not know why Hulsey was in the area, but they say he took the bus often and there is a bus stop near the scene.
Lafferty said the family was devastated when they received the news.
“Especially to find out the person that hit him just left the scene and just going to leave him laying on the ground like that. That’s pretty coldhearted,” he said.
He described Hulsey as a devoted father and grandfather. “He was a very loving father (and) really good to his grandkids,” Lafferty said.
State police say the suspect fled in a lightcolored SUV. As investigators search for the vehicle, Lafferty has this message for the driver:
“You gotta come forward because at the end of the day, you took somebody’s life and you took a father, you took a grandfather, and it’s not right,” he said.
Hulsey’s family and police are asking anyone who witnessed the hitandrun between 11:30 and 11:50 p.m. Friday to contact PSP at 484-840-1000.
