PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The ultimate fight night is coming up, and we’re introducing you to a few of the amateur boxers who will be stepping into the ring for the first time.
Haymakers for Hope will have these amateurs going blow for blow in front of a crowd of thousands.
Representing the blue corner, from Center City Philadelphia, amateur boxer and fitness trainer, Erica Spadaccini.
And in the red corner, from South Philadelphia, video producer for Johnson & Johnson, Becky Goodling.
“This is a great opportunity to see if I’m good at something I’ve never done before,” said Goodling.
Twenty-two amateur boxers from the Philadelphia area are stepping into the ring, some of them for the first time, all for the fight against cancer.
“I have some family members that have been affected by cancer, so it’s for a good cause, I’m learning something new, I’m becoming stronger physically, mentally, so there’s literally nothing to lose at this point,” said Spadaccini.
Haymakers for Hope’s Liberty Bell Brawl is back at The Fillmore to host an unforgettable night. The men and women have been training for months for their 3-round showdown.
“No fights under my belt, no boxing experience at all, have never done it in front of a million people, so I’m really excited for April 15,” said Spadaccini.
Inside the famous Front Street Gym in Kensington, Emily Coyle never thought she’d be sparring where boxing legends were born.
“I write, I bake – I don’t fight. I’ve never been in a fight. I just keep laughing. I move to Philly, and a year later I’m in Rocky’s boxing gym,” said Coyle.
The Liberty Bell Brawl is at The Fillmore on Wednesday, April 15.
Each boxer has a $10,000 fundraising goal, and all the proceeds benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand and other cancer-related charities that are near and dear to each fighter.
