PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — At the Pennsylvania Convention Center, kids and families got to meet their literary heroes.

The African American Children’s Book Fair gathered authors from across the nation to share their work.

“A book opens up a world of opportunity. I want every child in this city to be able to find books that reflect their images,” said Founder & Director of the African American Children’s Book Fair, Vanesse Lloyd-Sgambati.

“Every child needs to see themselves as a hero in a book. Every child needs to be able to read about their history. Every child needs to see the visual. And that’s why this event is so important,” she continued.
