SANTA CLARA, Calif. — In a Super Bowl halftime show packed with stars, one man from Fishtown stood out by standing still.

Andrew Athias found himself planted on the biggest stage in America, literally…

Cast as a plant beside Bad Bunny, the extra says it was more than just a “pinch me” moment.

“They told us, do not move…like, we’re very stern about you are not to be known that you are a person,” he said.

“But then, as I’m watching myself, I see myself in the corner, I’m like, there I am, dancing… when you listen to Bad Bunny’s music, you just want to dance,” said Athias.

Andrew says he was selected out of 40,000 people– who responded to an open casting call to be in Bad Bunny’s halftime show. He was elated when he learned he would be a grass bush depicting the sugar cane fields in the opening shot.

While not many people can say they played a prop during a halftime show, Andrew says being a part of something much bigger… was the most memorable part.

“It’s such an incredible… combination of feelings,” said Athias.

“He was talking about how beautiful Puerto Rico is, but also how much tragedy is on that island, and it’s just that experience of bringing so many different people together. To make this production, that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day.”

He says he was able to keep the arm sleeve of the plant costume.

6abc’s parent company, Disney, is excited to bring next year’s Super Bowl to 6abc.

It will air live from Los Angeles on February 14th on ESPN and ABC.
