PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A man has died after firefighters pulled him from a burning home in Southwest Philadelphia early Wednesday morning.
It happened around 2 a.m. on the 5400 block of Regent Street.
Smoke and flames were coming from the second floor of the home when firefighters arrived.
Four people were able to evacuate the house.
According to Chief Fire Marshal Anthony Bompadre, they told firefighters that someone else was still trapped inside.
Crews rushed in while fighting the flames and pulled the man out of an upstairs bedroom.
He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, but he did not survive.
“They were performing advanced life support measures, giving 100% as they always do, but unfortunately, we had a tragic outcome,” said Bompadre. “We’re a part of the community. This affects all of us and, like I said, despite our best efforts, unfortunately, it’s a tragic outcome.”
No other injuries were reported.
The fire marshal’s office is looking into whether there were working smoke detectors inside the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
