CLAYTON, N.J. (WPVI) — A New Jersey homeowner says a defective carpet installation turned into weeks of frustration until Call for Action stepped in and helped resolve the issue.
Tony Bruno of Clayton said he noticed problems almost immediately after his new carpet was installed.
“I don’t know if you can see it, but this is the original piece. And you can pretty much pull out the stuff out of here. It’s ridiculous,” he said. He added that loose fibers “would fill two or three vacuum canisters at a time.”
Bruno said the carpet company initially promised to send someone to evaluate the problem, but no one arrived.
“Well, of course, we waited day and night that day, and they never showed up or called, and I called and called and told,” he said. “Days later, the same lady would not respond… And that’s when my wife said, why don’t you try Call for Action, see if they can get you to move, because there’s a lot, you know, we spent $1,600 just on that section of carpet.”
Volunteers with Call for Action contacted the company on Bruno’s behalf.
“She got the process moving,” he said.
Bruno said the company initially resisted responsibility.
“They sent out this huge warranty thing. First, they said they weren’t responsible for it. I said, well, when you buy a new carpet, you have to have some kind of responsibility towards it.”
After continued follow-up from Call for Action, the company sent an inspector and ultimately replaced the carpet.
“They replaced it with this, which is the exact same carpeting, and it’s perfect!” Bruno said.
He encouraged other consumers to seek help when they feel stuck.
“Look, when you’re back up against the wall, and you’re not getting the response from anybody, I would say – try Call for Action. They are definitely a team that went after them and kept on it,” he said. “I mean, what I appreciated was I got a call every week on this from Call for Action… so I was happy. I was very happy, and I would say if you have a problem with it, try it. I mean, they really do a good job.”
