PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — An off-duty Philadelphia police officer has died following a crash while riding his personal motorcycle in the city’s Fox Chase neighborhood.
The officer was identified as 26-year-old Nicolas Verrecchio, who had been with the department since 2021 and assigned to the 18th District.
Police say the crash happened around 5 p.m. Sunday along the 8500 block of Verree Road.
Verrecchio’s motorcycle collided with another vehicle. Police say the driver of that vehicle was making a U-turn at the time.
The driver remained at the scene, and no citations have been issued.
The officer was transported to the medical examiner’s office on Monday afternoon in a police escort.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Officer Verrecchio’s family, friends, and fellow officers during this incredibly difficult time,” the police department said in a statement.
The crash remains under investigation.
