BALA CYNWYD, Pa. (WPVI) — Police in Montgomery County are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in the Bala Cynwyd section of Lower Merion Township early Wednesday morning.
Officials say Lower Merion police were on patrol around 3:45 a.m. when they spotted a vehicle on the unit block of Old Lancaster Road belonging to 38-year-old Francis Connell Collier.
Collier was wanted by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office on child rape charges, investigators say.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, when officers tried to confront Collier as he returned to his vehicle, he began firing shots at them.
Officers fired back, hitting and killing Collier.
Sources tell Action News that Collier was a part-time police officer in Morton Borough, Delaware County.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing.
