PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A 30-year-old woman is in custody as police investigate a shooting and stabbing that killed another woman inside a South Philadelphia apartment on Friday night.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of South 9th Street for a report of a possible shooting.

Police said the woman now in custody was outside the building when officers arrived and provided information that led them upstairs, where they discovered a crime scene on the second floor.

Investigators were seen repeatedly entering and exiting the apartment as they gathered evidence from the second floor, which police said is where the incident occurred.

“Upon arrival, officers entered a second-floor apartment on that block and discovered a 26-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to the head as well as multiple stab wounds,” said Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace.

Surveillance video shows the 30-year-old woman kneeling with her hands above her head before an officer approaches, places her in handcuffs and escorts her to a police vehicle.

Police said the crime scene was contained to the second-floor apartment and that both a gun and a knife were recovered.

Police believe the two women may have been roommates.

Pace said, “We do not believe there was a relationship beyond simply being roommates and sharing that apartment.”

Investigators say a motive is unclear at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
