NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) — Search crews have located the tractor-trailer cab that crashed through a concrete barrier and fell off the Delaware Memorial Bridge, according to the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA).

The cab was found in about 20 feet of water, a DRBA official said Friday morning. There was no immediate word on the condition of the driver.

The left southbound lane of the bridge is closed due to the crash.

Officials say the semi cab, without a trailer, was traveling southbound on I-295 into Delaware around 3:40 a.m. when it crossed three lanes of traffic, onto the concrete pad near the Delaware anchorage and crashed through a concrete wall, falling into the Delaware River below.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

It is unknown if anyone else was in the truck at the time of the crash.

Crews are on scene after a semi cab plunged off the Delaware Memorial Bridge into the river below Friday morning.

The Coast Guard, dive teams and local fire companies were called in to search the river.

The accident remains under investigation.
