South Jersey community hosts vigil to mourn the loss of beloved wild turkey named 'Fred'

DEPTFORD TWP., N.J. (WPVI) — A South Jersey community gathered Friday to remember a beloved feathered friend.

Fred the Turkey, a local Deptford Township legend, tragically died earlier this week after he was hit by car.

Dozens of people showed up to his memorial service along Clements Bridge Road to say goodbye.

The wild turkey was known for hanging out near that same road where he chased people and cars, and also where he often blocked traffic.
