“Tell Me Lies” fans have been on the edge of their seats all of Season 3. And now that the season finale has ended, and creator Meaghan Oppenheimer revealed this would be the series finale, fans have had LOTS of thoughts ranging from shock to suspicion to anger and acceptance.

“I always had a very clear idea of an ending and this was sort of the ending I had kind of pitched and imagined,” Oppenheimer told On The Red Carpet prior to the season premiere. “I’m so proud of it.”

On The Red Carpet spoke with Cat Missal, Branden Cook and Spencer House after just the finale dropped.

“It’s a great ending in that, like, it kind of wraps up the show perfectly,” said Missal.

“I agree, too, I think they stuck very true to the theme of the show,” added House.

“It also gave a bit of a WTF factor, like what is happening? Why did that happen? It was explosive,” said Cook.

We’ll get to the cast’s thoughts on the finale. But first, here’s a brief recap of what happened.

“Tell Me Lies” series finale spoilers below

Bree is confronted by her mom, Oliver and Marianne. Her mom, it seems, was swayed by Marianne and believed their story that Bree had made up her relationship with Oliver and was now harassing him. Bree walks away and basically ends her relationship with her mom.

Pippa reveals to Wrigley that she is gay, which he accepts. She also reveals to Wrigley that Stephen sent nudes of Diana to her parents and laments that no one ever does anything to stop him. The audience is led to believe that later, Wrigley was the one who called Yale and got Stephen kicked out.

The tape of Lucy’s confession is released. Stephen says it wasn’t him. She tries to get comfort from Alex but he turns her away. She’s expelled from school and goes home.

Bree confronts Evan and gets him to confirm that he and Lucy slept together. They agree to not tell anyone and they continue on with their relationship.

Flash forward to 2015.

Bree and Wrigley reconnect at her engagement party. He asks her for a second chance after everything that happened six years prior at college and he seems to get that.

Later, at Bree and Evan’s wedding, Stephen puts all the pieces together, grabbing the mic from the DJ and revealing most of the friend group secrets: Lucy slept with Evan in college, Bree released the tape about Lucy and ruined her life, and that Bree’s been sleeping with Wrigley in the months before leading up to the wedding.

Britney Spears’ song “Toxic” plays as the fallout begins. Punches are thrown, cake is thrown (and ruined by Evan being pushed into it), accusations are confirmed and in the end Lucy leaves with Stephen. They stop for gas and he leaves her there, alone and laughing at everything that just took place.

“Tell Me Lies” cast shares thoughts on series finale

“The audience is also left at the gas station with Lucy,” House said. “It’s like, hey, you also got caught up in this. And these kind of guys. They usually win, and if you give them attention and if play their game, you lose. So I feel like that was the takeaway of the show.”

Cook added, “I think everybody got more so what they deserve to some degree based on their actions. It’s nice to have some hope with, you know, Diana and Pippa and Bree and Wrigley. And I think Evan has some repairing to do with probably his family because they wasted a beautiful cake! The chickens came home to roost to some degree. But yeah, same with Lucy and Stephen, honestly. I think they got what they deserve.”

Missal recalled being on set during those chaotic wedding scenes.

“We got just to run the whole thing, which was so fun,” she said. “It was like, it didn’t feel like too broken up and we were in the chaos. It was also like, we were all at this hotel together and just there, being all together, we kind of just like, have a great time. And so it was just a lot of fun.”

The group unity and the friendships are what they all are thankful for.

“This has just been a dream for all of us,” said Missal. “We like working with each other, but the friendships, you know, I think, are so strong and we’ll take those along with us. Just to see where everyone goes and what everybody does is really exciting to me as well.”

“This show changed my life and I’m really happy to be here, really content with how it ended and how it went and really grateful for the people I met along the way and the lessons I learned,” said Cook.

“It really let you be an actor with a sense of freedom in it. The performances were of importance to the creatives,” House said. “And so there were a lot of lessons learned because we were just playing ping pong with each other in these scenes, like for years. And it was like every day you got better and better and you were able to grow in that way. And not every show, unfortunately, not every shows seems to always think that’s the most, that’s important.”

All three seasons of “Tell Me Lies” are streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu, Disney+ and this ABC station.
