The City of Trenton hosts groundbreaking ceremony for senior center renovation project

TRENTON, N.J. (WPVI) — The City of Trenton hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for a massive renovation project.

The South Ward Senior Center on South Broad Street is undergoing a $2.25 million makeover.

The building dates back to 1875. It was originally constructed as Chambersburg Borough Hall.

The structure is now eligible for a listing on both the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places.

Officials say the renovation will modernize the senior center, while also preserving its historic character. The City of Trenton wants to ensure the building continues to serve as a critical resource for local seniors.
